Ch Castle Butte Cactus Jack has been missing for nearly a year now in Florida. The search continues. Go to the above link for the full story appearing in today's Orlando Sentinal. Not really something new - but the newspaper article is hot off the press.
Champion Castle Butte Cactus Jack, as he's known on the competition circuit, was traveling from California to Florida last spring for a breeding visit. In Orlando, he was scheduled to be picked up by Deb Clark, a Lake Wales breeder. But the 45-pound dog jumped out of his crate at the airport after someone opened it, Paul Myers says.
After months of searching, Myers has nearly given up hope. "Either an alligator got him, a car hit him or something else," he says. "I want to hope he's still alive, and still around there, but after this long, it's hard to imagine."
And yet, he remembers the case of an Australian cattle dog that was lost in the California desert and showed up 13 months later.
The trail for Jack has run hot and cold. In December, the Myerses thought they had tracked him down -- to an Osceola County woman who was selling Australian cattle dog puppies. The Myerses suspected the woman had taken Jack in and bred him. But Whicker discovered that the puppies were born in June -- too early for Jack to have sired them.
