Couple saves 9 dogs in blaze - Flagstaff, Arizona
Jeffery Young and Kelly Alderman were planning to go quail hunting
Sunday, but a burning house full of dogs took them on a detour.
The couple was en route to Alderman's sister's to pick up her son for
their trip when Alderman noticed smoke coming from a log house on
Winchester Drive, just off Highway 89, in Doney Park.
The pair scooped up two scared spaniels, three adult golden retrievers, and four tiny retriever puppies, too young to walk. They herded the adult dogs into a detached garage that was not burning, and put the pups in their truck with their own pooch, a cattle dog named Tough.
After rounding up the dogs, Young returned, still concerned for human life. He found the house empty, but he continued to tear through, trying to salvage what he could for the homeowners. He yanked the hard drives out of computers and an entire rod out of the closet, getting out as much clothing as he could carry.
